Stay Tuned for 2016’s Civic Tech Challenge!
Generation Citizen (GC) is a nonprofit that runs action civics programming in local schools in which teens take real action to solve local community problems. At 2015’s Generation Citizen Civic Tech Challenge, launched in Greater Boston for the second year in a row, and in the Bay Area for the first time ever, nearly 40 middle school students in each region partnered with 30 technologist over the course of a day-long hackathon. Collaboratively, the students and technologists created data visualizations, digital storytelling tools, and information communication technologies that helped the students advance change on key community issues like violence, homelessness, mental health, and substance abuse. At the evening presentation and reception, teams of technologists and students presented their innovations to 200+ innovation sector guests and an event Honoree, Host Committee, and Judging Panel representing each region’s leading innovators. Thank you for making 2015’s Civic Tech Challenge so powerful and inspiring, and stay tuned for information about 2016’s Civic Tech Challenge!
“GC taught me that I don’t have to wait for someone to do it for me – I can create change myself.”
